Planning Department teams up with Yerba Buena CBD to launch competition for students

Student Competition for Portable Bike Corral Designs Announced
Competition Includes a Cash Prize, Exhibition of All Entries & the Opportunity to Work with a Design Firm

What does the future of bicycle parking in San Francisco look like? To find out, a student competition seeking designs for portable bicycle corrals for San Francisco’s Yerba Buena neighborhood was announced earlier this week.

“We are proud to support Yerba Buena in promoting sustainable transportation and creative design in the public realm with amenities that best serve the neighborhood,” said John Rahaim, Planning Director for the City and County of San Francisco.

The winning entry will receive a $500 cash prize and the opportunity to work with a design firm to fabricate a prototype to be used in the Yerba Buena neighborhood. All entries will be part of an exhibition at the San Francisco Planning and Research Association (SPUR). Interested participants must register online by March 1, 2013. Additional information is at www.ybcbd.org.

The competition is sponsored by the YBCBD in partnership with the San Francisco Planning Department and the Pavement to Parks program, San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency, San Francisco Bicycle Coalition and SPUR.
