The Planning Department has released an update of the Community Safety Element of the General Plan, which will be proposed for adoption before the Planning Commission this spring. This Element establishes policies to protect San Francisco from risks associated with natural and manmade disasters, and aims to better address the City's objectives of mitigation, preparation, response, and recovery.
This update supports the numerous City initiatives already underway to increase earthquake and emergency preparedness, and its adoption will ensure that such programs continue to be directed through City policy over the long-term. Implementation of the Community Safety Element will be carried out through ongoing plans such as the City's Hazard Mitigation Plan, programs developed under the ResilientSF Initiative and the San Francisco Community Action Plan for Public Safety (CAPSS).
The updated Element for public review is available here for download.Â
