Pavement to Parks Celebrates Completion of Persia Triangle Temporary Plaza
Ribbon Cutting Event with Supervisor Avalos on September 28th
MEDIA ADVISORY
SAN FRANCISCO, CA – On Sunday, September 28th, Supervisor John Avalos, the Excelsior Action Group, and the San Francisco Planning Department’s Pavement to Parks Program invite the community to celebrate the installation of the new Persia Triangle Plaza, a temporary public plaza intended to increase pedestrian safety, neighborhood engagement, and beautification in the heart of the Excelsior. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at the new plaza, located at the intersection of Mission Street and Ocean Avenue at 11 a.m. The ceremony will also serve as a kick-off for the annual Sunday Streets in the Excelsior and the Excelsior Arts and Music Festival.
Designed by Fletcher Studio, the temporary plaza is an initiative led by the Excelsior Action Group, a volunteer-driven and community based organization working to revitalize San Francisco’s Excelsior commercial corridor. The installation includes expanded sidewalks for new seating and plants, and a special decorative sidewalk and crosswalk design leading to the new plaza. It is a pilot plaza project for the Pavement to Parks program with an emphasis on sidewalk widening and traffic calming.
The completion of the Persia Triangle Plaza was a collaborative effort with The San Francisco Planning Department, San Francisco Public Works, San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency, San Francisco Office of Economic and Workforce Development, Excelsior Action Group, the Excelsior residents and business owners, the San Francisco Parks Alliance, and Supervisor John Avalos’ Office.
WHEN: Sunday, September 28, 11:00 a.m.
