Modifications to today’s agenda?

Today is National Healthy Schools Day!

·    AIR Health Awards were announced.  No SFUSD schools that we nominated were selected this year. There were 45 applications submitted so much more competition than last year.

·    Anjali submitted information on ATF work to Green Schools Initiative website for National Healthy Schools Day

·    Member described Fairfield/Suisun schools success with Tools for Schools program.  Anjali will contact their coalition.

·    Discussed the need to involve the larger school community to ensure longevity and success of the work.

Membership Updates

·      Anjali will follow up with Sabrina, Herma, SF Health Plan and other interested parties

ATF Committee/Project Updates

      Schools

·       Marie reminded members of the presentation made to the School Board last August and that the District Asthma Team (DAT) continues to meet and make progress.  Workplan chart is helping to track progress.

·       We have not yet received requested update on database query of students with asthma.  Remains an issue of great concern to not have the emergency forms on file for every student with asthma.

·       Tools for Schools projects are going well and we will complete them before the school year ends at SOTA and Horace Mann.

Child Care Workgroup

·

Almost poised to write up recommendations.  Goal is to be ready by July 1st to train Gateway to Quality on new recommendations.

·

RAMP will fund Luz to help disseminate recommendations broadly

·

2 nursing students from UCSF are also involved with the project half time to help refine the Training of Trainer model for the information

·

Wrapping up testing with Ionizer (registered device for sanitizing using only ionized water)

·

Conducting air volume measurements of ventilation to help get funds from the Child Care Fund and Low Income Investment Fund (LIIF) for facility fixes.

·       Still working to discuss the recommendation for product containing Thymol.

Environmental

·       Training on IPM for SFHA staff will be on May 13th for site managers, tenants, etc.   This was done with the support of Supervisor Maxwell.  Training to be conducted by NortheastTrainingCenter.

·       As part of this, SFHA has also committed to do a pilot at the Sunnydale site over the course of the year.

·

For the BVHP Housing Clinic surveys were completed and staff will follow up with clients.  Next step is convening community meetings and writing up policy recommendations.

Clinical

·       Decided to do one Asthma Network Meeting this year in October.

·       Hospitalization Studies Project – Karen has done 4 mailing and the focus group is on Wednesday

·       Making Patients Part of the Team Project – meeting with Dr. Miller and making this part of the October Network meeting

·       Discussed the challenge in being able to engage primary care providers/physicians

·       Motivational Interview trainings for smoking cessation are going well

·       Karen Smith provided training at St. Anthony’s on office spirometry

World Asthma Day Planning

  • Initial plan to award a dollar store fell through since that dollar store closed

  • Anjali and Krista proposed an idea to work with SFDPH and SFE to promote the elimination of toxic cleaning products in the classroom.  The activity would help SFUSD families and staff dispose of their products properly through Hazardous Waste and would promote healthier cleaning alternatives.  Anjali and Krista will follow up and inform ATF of the process and how they can be involved.
  • Can we acknowledge Andrea on Nan’s staff before she leaves?

Preparing for ATF Sunset June 2011

·       Structure and function as a community coalition

·       Tracking our progress, accomplishments, future recommendations

·       Comment on Our Strategic Plan – what remains to be done?

·       Funding for projects

·       Final Report/Presentation on SFATF accomplishments and future recommendations (for

·       Public Health Commission, Board of Supervisors, etc.)

·       Marie suggested making the approach of our sunset dramatic.  Anjali concurred indicating that SFATF has done tremendous work and has not touted it’s own horn enough.  We need the community to be aware of all that has been going on in order for them to sustain the work.

·       Karen suggested getting FOIA on “breathing distress” calls received by the EMS
