“Climate change is real, and it is one of our world’s greatest economic and health risks. Any decision to withdraw the United States from the Paris Agreement is not only shortsighted and dangerous, but will also further erode our nation’s global standing with the international community.

In the absence of federal leadership, San Francisco will continue to take aggressive measures on climate change. Our City is proof that strong action on climate change is good for the planet and good for business. Since 1990, we have reduced our citywide emissions by 28 percent, even while our population has grown by 19 percent and our local economy by 78 percent.

Last month, we pledged that at least 50 percent of our citywide electricity will be renewable by 2020, and 100 percent renewable no later than 2030. The move to clean energy by 2020 alone is expected to create more than 5,000 jobs in existing and new solar and wind projects.

San Francisco is committed to working with cities, regions, states, institutions and businesses both nationally and internationally in the fight against climate change. The rest of the world’s countries have signaled they are committed to the Paris Agreement and so is San Francisco.”
