Mayor Lee’s Statement on Republican Opposition to Infrastructure Investment in President Obama’s Jobs Bill

Mayor Edwin M. Lee today issued the following statement on the U.S. Senate Republicans blocking the $60 billion infrastructure investment in President Obama’s American Jobs Act to grow the economy:

“I am disappointed in the Senate Republicans for failing to act and blocking the nearly $60 billion in infrastructure investments for our highways, rails, transit and airports in President Obama’s jobs plan.

I applaud the leadership of Senate Democrats including Senators Feinstein and Boxer and House Democratic Leader Pelosi for advancing smart investments to grow our economy and creating jobs to put Americans back to work.

Here in San Francisco, we are leading the way in making investments to improve infrastructure and capital projects like Cesar Chavez Street in the Mission District that are putting San Franciscans back to work and growing our economy. We cannot do this alone, and we need our Federal leaders to seize this opportunity and invest in our cities and our communities.”
