1. Call to Order and Roll Call


The meeting was called to order at 5:11 pm. Commissioners present: Madeleine Matz, William Juarez, Stephanie Li, Luis Avalos-Nunez. Staff present: Monica Guzman. There was quorum.

There was no public comment.

2. Approval of Agenda (Action Item)


Commissioner, seconded by Commissioner, moved to approve the agenda. There was no public comment. The motion was approved by acclamation.

4. Legislation Referred from the Board of Supervisors (All Items to Follow Discussion and Possible Action)


There was none.

5. Business (All Items to Follow Discussion and Possible Action)


A. Review Committee Calendar

Staff Monica Guzman distributed the committee calendar for the commissioners to review. They confirmed that their meeting day works well for everyone but suggested shifting the time up to 5:15 pm. They also discussed the possibility of canceling the December 29th meeting and will revisit that at a later date.

B. Review Past YC Work related to Immigration and Economic Justice

Commissioner Avalos-Nunez, who was on the Immigration and Employment committee, last year, gave some feedback on the past work the commission did. Staff Monica Guzman distributed the Budget and Policy Priorities and commissioners read priorities related to immigration and economic justice out loud. Some of the topics they discussed were DACA, CBA, supporting City College, student survey for ELL and Summer Jobs+.


C. Brainstorm and Discussion of Committee Goals for Year

Goals that were generated included partnering with non-profits and community based organizations, getting out into the community, learning more about the immigrant community and experience, support successful implementation of DACA fee waivers, support accountability and quality implementation for departments that directly affect youth and families, work with local tech companies so they can help support youth employment, promote more skill based youth employments and support CCSF and higher education in SF.

D. Elections of Committee Chair and Vice Chair

Commissioner Juarez, seconded by Commissioner Li, nominated Commissioner Juarez for chair. Four votes went to Commissioner Juarez, who was elected for chair.

Commissioner Li, seconded by Commissioner Matz, nominated Commissioner Li for vice chair. Four votes went to Commissioner Li, who was elected for vice chair.

Public Comment: Commissioner Anna He congratulated the two new chairs of the committee.

There was none.

7. Staff Report


Staff reminded the commissioners to reach out to their appointing official to schedule a meeting.
