1. Call to Order and Roll Call
The meeting was called to order at 5:02 p.m. Commissioners present: Nicholas Persky, Rachel Brodwin, Christine Huynh, Paul Monge-Rodriguez (arrived at 5:20 p.m.), Mia Shackelford. Staff present: Mario Yedidia, Phimy Truong. There was quorum.
2. Approval of Agenda (Action Item)
Commissioner Brodwin, seconded by Commissioner Huynh, moved to approve the agenda. The motion was approved unanimously by acclamation.
3. Public Comment on Items not on Agenda (Discussion Only)
There were none.
4. Business (All Items to Follow Discussion and Possible Action)
A. Staff report
Mr. Yedidia brought forward important updates about Youth Commission staff to the committee. First, he announced that staff has been working hard to plan and prepare for his departure of the commission, and that Phimy Truong, the Youth Commission’s Coordinator of Youth Development and Administration for 1.5 years, will assume the role of Director; this would ensure continuity and keep the structural institutional knowledge of the commission in place. Then, Mr. Yedidia announced that Adele Carpenter would be moving into Ms. Truong’s previous role of Coordinator of Youth Development and Administration, and that staff will be bringing in Allen Lu to fill the role of Community Outreach and Civic Engagement. Mr. Lu was one of the original applicants for the position, when staff hired on Ms. Carpenter, and brings exceptional knowledge and experience to the commission. Finally, Mr. Yedidia expressed his gratitude to the commission and shared that he wholeheartedly believes the commission would continue to excel and uphold their chartered duties with the current staff.

C Approve the agenda for the March 4, 2013 full Youth Commission meeting.
As there were no real substantive items to add to the agenda, committee members decided to cancel the meeting of March 4th. Commissioner Persky stated that it would be best to allow commissioners to continue working on their priorities and research of issues in their respective committees. Commissioner Huynh, seconded by Commissioner Shackelford moved to cancel the meeting of March 4th, 2013. This motion was approved unanimously by acclamation.
E. Officer updates
Commissioners provided brief updates on their respective roles. Commissioner Monge-Rodriguez gave an update on the free MUNI for youth launch event that took place that morning, and reminded commissioners that the pilot program starts on Friday, March 1st. Commissioner Huynh shared with her colleagues that she looks forward to continue the vision of the outreach plan with Mr. Lu now on as staff.
F. Youth of the year award update
Commissioner Brodwin gave an update on the successful youth of the year award outreach calling party. Phone calls and email reminders to organizations have been made. Commissioner Brodwin urged her peers to spread the word about the award.
G. Bay area-wide YC summit
Ms. Truong informed commissioners that the summit would have to be postponed. Staff will reconnect with Oakland YC staff and discuss possible rescheduled dates.
5. Issue-Based Committee Reports (Discussion Only)
Commissioners each gave a brief update on their respective committees.
6. Executive Committee Report (Discussion Only)
This item was tabled as there would be no full YC meeting on March 4th.
7. Adjournment
The meeting was adjourned at 6:15 p.m.
