1. Call to Order and Roll Call

The meeting was called to order at 4:41 pm.

 

Commissioners present: Sarah Armstrong, Betty Huey, Nicholas Persky, Mia Shackelford. There was quorum. Staff present: Phimy Truong.

 

2. Approval of Agenda (Action Item)

 

Commissioner Persky, seconded by Commissioner Shackelford, moved to approve the agenda. This motion was approved unanimously by acclamation.

 

3. Approval of Minutes (Action Item)

 

A. Tuesday, April 17, 2012

Commissioner Shackelford, seconded by Commissioner Persky, moved to approve the minutes to the meeting of April 17, 2012. This motion was approved unanimously by acclamation.

 

4. Public Comment on Items not on Agenda (Discussion Only)

 

Monica Guerra, former Youth Commissioner, introduced herself to committee members and expressed interest in observing the meeting and interviewing some members.

 

5. Business (All Items to Follow Discussion and Possible Action)

 

A. Research on accessibility of work permits

Commissioner Armstrong delegated different tasks to committee members. Commissioner Persky reached out to the Student Advisory Council; Commissioners Shackelford and Huey researched the Career Technical Education program, and discussed how to make the work permit process easy to navigate for high school students. Commissioner Armstrong worked with staff on a list of suggestions and ideas for the Summer Jobs+ Resource Fair Planning meeting; and established goals for the committee to work on in the remaining months of the Youth Commission term.

Commissioners Armstrong and Persky were interviewed by Monica Guerra.

Commissioners agreed to meet again on Monday, April 30, 2012 at 5:15 pm.

6. Adjournment

 

The meeting was adjourned at 6:47 pm.
