1. Call to Order and Roll Call

Acting Committee Chair Mia Shackelford called the meeting to order at 5:00 pm. Commissioners present: Kyron Covington, Christine Huynh, Nicholas Pesrky, and Mia Shackelford. Commissioners absent: Sarah Armstrong. Staff present: Phimy Truong, Mario Yedidia. There was quorum.
There was no public comment.

 

2. Approval of Agenda (Action Item)

There was no public comment on this item.

Commissioner Persky, seconded by Commissioner Huynh, moved to approve the agenda. This motion was approved unanimously by acclamation.

3. Approval of Minutes (Action Item)

A. June 11, 2012

There was no public comment on this item.

Commissioner Persky, seconded by Commissioner Shackelford, moved to approve the minutes to the meeting of June 11, 2012. This motion was approved unanimously by acclamation.

4. Public Comment on Items not on Agenda (Discussion Only)

There were none.

5. Business (All Items to Follow Discussion and Possible Action)

B. Review 11-12 committee priorities and work
Commissioners spent some time looking over issue briefing memos which provided information on what the committee worked on in the 11-12 term. Commissioners Shackelford and Persky then shared with their peers their previous work on Summer Jobs+, youth involvement plans, and work permits.

C. Committee goals

Commissioners then spent some time discussing priorities they would like to work on in the committee. Priorities discussed included following up on and evaluating Summer Jobs+ and the youth involvement plans, looking into the Obama administration’s Deferred Action policy, employment for undocumented youth, and learning as much as they can about the landscape of youth workforce in San Francisco.

Commissioners asked staff to invite Glenn Eagleson, Senior Planner and Policy Analyst from the Department of Children, Youth, and their Families to give a presentation at the next youth employment committee meeting. Commissioners then came up with a list of questions to guide their discussion at the next meeting.

D. Elect Committee Chair

Commissioner Huynh was then elected to be Committee Chair by her colleagues. Commissioner Covington was then elected to be Committee Vice Chair by his colleagues.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:09pm.
