1. Call to Order and Roll Call

The meeting was called to order at 4:35 pm. Commissioners present: Rachel Brodwin, Leah LaCroix, Happy Yang. Commissioners absent: Robin Bonner, Mia Tu Mutch. There was quorum. Staff present: Phimy Truong.

2. Approval of Agenda (Action Item)

Commissioner Brodwin, seconded by Commissioner LaCroix, moved to approve the agenda. The motion was approved unanimously by acclamation.

3. Approval of Minutes (Action Item)

A. February 29, 2012
Commissioner Brodwin, seconded by Commissioner LaCroix, moved to approve the minutes to the meeting of February 29, 2012. The motion was approved unanimously by acclamation.

4. Public Comment on Items not on Agenda (Discussion Only)

There were none.

5. Staff Report/Update on Communications, etc.

Phimy Truong updated commissioners on the need to continue to outreach and get the 2012-2013 Youth Commission applications out to youth of San Francisco.

6. Business (All Items to Follow Discussion and Possible Action)

A. Establishing the agenda for the March 19, 2012 full Youth Commission meeting

Commissioners agreed to agendized the following items for the meeting of March 19, 2012: a presentation on the Department of Children, Youth, and their Families’ (DCYF) Children’s Services Allocation Plan (CSAP); a presentation from the Larkin Street Youth Services Youth Advisory Board; a second reading of Commissioner Joyce Sun’s resolution regarding Cal Grants; a second reading of Commissioner Sun’s resolution regarding the Middle Class Scholarship Act; a first reading of the Youth Employment Committee’s resolution on a local summer jobs + campaign; and a motion to sponsor the Youth of the Year Award.

B. Update on Youth Commission Business

Commissioners updated each other on the work of each of the Youth Commission’s issue-based committees and practiced talking points of Youth Commission work.

C. Preparation for Youth Community Budget Hearing

Commissioner Yang reminded her peers that the Youth Commission’s budget hearing is two weeks away and there is a lot of work to be done. Yang delegated tasks to her peers: as Outreach officer, Commissioner Brodwin will be reminding commissioners of this important event, Commissioner LaCroix will be working on the budget workshop with Commissioner Bonner, and Yang will be reminding all committees to turn in their budget priorities to her on March 23, 2012. Commissioners worked quickly on a flyer and agreed that outreach to get as many young people out to the budget hearing will be very important.

D. Update on Officer Duties: Legislative Affairs, Outreach, Media & Public Relations

Commissioner Brodwin shared that she will be coming in on Tuesday, March 20th to work on outreach and check in with all commissioners on the status of their outreach.

7. Adjournment

The meeting was adjourned at 5:22 pm.
