1. Call to Order and Roll Call


The meeting was called to order at 5:03 p.m. Commissioners present: Huynh, Covington, Persky, Shackelford. There was quorum. Staff present: Phimy Truong.

2. Approval of Agenda (Action Item)


There was no public comment.

Commissioner Shackelford, seconded by Commissioner Covington, moved to approve the agenda. The motion was unanimously adopted by acclamation.

3. Approval of Minutes (Action Item)


A. March 26, 2013

There was no public comment. Commissioner Huynh, seconded by Commissioner Shackelford, moved to approve the minutes to the meeting of March 26, 2013. The motion was unanimously adopted by acclamation.

4. Public Comment on Items not on Agenda (Discussion Only)


There were none.

5. Business (All Items to Follow Discussion and Possible Action)


A. Staff report

Ms. Truong provided a brief update regarding the full Youth Commission’s upcoming off site meeting.

B. Update on meeting with Square Plate

Commissioner Shackelford provided a brief update on her meeting about an application project called Square Plate. Shackelford expressed that the application, which seeks to identify restaurants that comply with the application’s sustainable and good labor practices, is in its preliminary planning stage. Commissioner Shackelford shared that she and Commissioner Armstrong provided a list of youth employment organizations for the Square Plate representative to outreach to.

Commissioners asked clarifying questions. There was no official action.

C. Review committee priorities and goals
• Summer Jobs+ update
• Undocumented youth

Commissioners spent a majority of the meeting working on committee priorities. Commissioner Persky provided an update from a meeting he attended with youth employment service providers, which was a preliminary conversation on how to employ undocumented youth, and barriers undocumented youth face in finding employment.

D. Work on committee community engagement plan

Commissioners would like to have an off site meeting in June, and would like to plan for this meeting at a later meeting.

6. Items to Report to Executive Committee (Discussion Only)


Commissioner Covington asked Commissioner Huynh to provide the following updates: the committee will be participating in community meetings around employing undocumented youth and participating in SF Summer Jobs+ 2013.

The meeting was adjourned at 6:50 p.m.
