1. Call to Order and Roll Call

The meeting was called to order by Commissioner Yu at 5:01pm.

2. Approval of Agenda (Action Item)

Commissioner Wu, seconded by Commissioner Bernick moved to approve the agenda for the meeting. The motion was approved by acclamation.

Commissioner Sicairos, seconded by Commissioner Wu moved to approve the minutes from May 14, 2014. The motion was approved by acclamation.

5. Business (All Items to Follow Discussion and Possible Action)

A. Check-in

The committee members shared the type of food they were craving for.

B. Committee Priority: Update and Next Steps

The committee members looked at the Resolution and made some changes to strengthen the language. They created a resolve clause to also encourage SFUSD to expand and prioritize already existing programs and curriculum that directly engages and educates about disabilities and increases inclusion for all.

The committee discussed the process they had this year and their plans for next steps. Commissioner Bernick wanted to investigate how the city can support in the education of youth in hospitals for periods of time when their school work would be impacted. Commissioners Sicairos and Bernick also wanted to look into how the city supports TAY with disabilities. Commissioner Yu also wanted to help her colleagues in this endeavor. Commission Wu wanted to work on pedestrian safety, especially around school zones. Commissioner Sicairos mentioned that her District office is also working on that issue, and that she would be interested in working with Commissioner Wu in her information gathering.

The committee will bring back some primary research at their next committee meeing.

6. Staff Report

A. Programmatic updates, review upcoming events

Mr. Lu invited Commissioner Eric Wu to speak about the Youth Advocacy Training that happened at LYRIC in preparation for the Children’s Fund hearing. Youth from many organizations, schools, and districts will be coming to City Hall during the week of June 2nd, Youth Lobby Week, to visit the Supervisors’ and Mayor’s offices and sharing why they are in support of the recommendations in the Children’s Fund Resolution you all passed. He invited the Commissioners to join and stand alongside him and these youth and voice their support for an adequate increase of the Children’s Fund to address the unmet needs of youth 0-17 and disconnected TAY.

Commissioners Bernick will come out June 2 and 4th. Commissioners Wu will come out 4th and 5th. And Commissioner Sicairos is interested and will get back to staff about her schedule. (Commissioner Yu will be out of town)

7. Items to Report to Executive Committee (Action Item)

Commissioner Yu, seconded by Commissioner Wu motioned to cancel their June 4th meeting due to availability and scheduling conflict that week. This motion was approved by acclamation.

The meeting was adjourned at 6:43pm.
