A. Brainstorm and discussion of committee priorities
a. Update on partnering with Peer Resources
- The EJI committee will meet with June Jordan Peer Resources members this Friday. The peer coordinator thinks the undocumented immigrants aren’t ready to be mentors yet and that they need more mentoring and training. So now EJI will be doing workshops for the peer resources to teach them how to find resources and help each other help each other.
- The EJI committee did a brainstorm about what to discuss on Friday. Some ideas were: legal services, education, healthcare, family wellness, mention joining organizations - - - make a “one stop” resource center for all of this information. CCSF has the VIDA resource center, having something like that would be great. There should also be a focus on outreach and an awareness campaign, as well as ensure counselors are trained and know about immigrant issues. There should also be an emphasis on collecting data and have an anonymous QA system for students to ask questions.
b. Update on resolution for unaccompanied minors
- The EJI committee has not heard back from the people they reached out to last week, the attorneys and non-profits. They are thinking that EJI should go talk to the Board of Education to get an update about the status of UAC. They are also thinking of setting up a meeting with individual board members, such as Hyrda or Sandra, to see what’s going on within SFUSD. They also think they should work on a joint resolution with the SAC. They will contact the SAC to discuss. They also want to talk about comments/questions they had from Angie Romano. Lastly they considered scheduling a meeting w/ SFUSD Superintendent.
c. Update on CBA resolution
- The committee continued to do research on the CBAs and plans to start a google doc of their resolution. They also want staff to contact the Citizen's Advisory Committee for a presentation.
B. Review current pertinent legislation
