Members: Anna Bernick (Chair), Noah David (Vice Chair), Anna He, Jillian Wu
1. Call to Order and Roll Call
The meeting was called to order at 5:09 pm. Commissioners present: Bernick, David, He, Wu; Commissioners absent: None; Staff present: Adele Failes-Carpenter. There was quorum.
Commissioner Bernick reviewed group agreements.
2. Approval of Agenda (Action Item)
Commissioner He, seconded by Commissioner David, moved to approve the agenda. There was no public comment. The motion was approved by acclamation.

5. Business (All Items to Follow Discussion and Possible Action)
A. Recent outreach updates
• Polina Florova explained that the Board of Advising Youth at SFPL the Mix had endorsed Vote16SF
• Chanun Ong presented to June Jordan students at Coleman Advocates
• Celi Tamayo-Lee had presented to Project WHAT, who are coming out Tuesday.
• Oliver York had attended the YEF grantee mixer to do outreach
• Oliver York had received endorsement from the Harvey Milk LGBT democratic club for the policy effort at the Board of Supervisors
• Joshua Park had presented and received endorsement from the Peer Resources Youth Council
• Jillian Wu had presented to YLI/BLING
• Adele Failes-Carpenter confirmed that LYRIC had endorsed the effort as well.
• Celi-Tamayo Lee invited youth advocates to check out a google calendar with upcoming outreach events

B. Preparation for upcoming presentations/workshops
Chair Bernick reviewed upcoming events:
• Meeting with Assemblymember Chiu, Friday 2/19 at 8:30 am
• Meeting with Jill Wynns, Friday 2/19 at 2:00 pm
• Presentation to Mayor’s Disability Council, Friday 2/19 at 3:30 pm
• Iris Morell and Anna He will present to the SAC on Monday evening
• Oliver York will speak at DCCC public comment on student voter registration on Wednesday night
• Shara Orquiza and Lorelei Vaisse will attend Youth Advocacy Day 3/17
• Celi Tamayo-Lee and Anna Bernick will meet with Hydra Mendoza on Monday
• Adele Failes-Carpenter is working to set up a meeting with Mayor’s office, Nicole Elliot, for youth commissioners

C. Review plan for BOE hearing on February 23, 2016
• Committee members discussed roles for speaker prep session including welcome table (Arrianna and Polina), peer reporters (Joshua and Anna He), talking point leaders (Oliver and Noah), and speaking coaches (Jill Wu)
• Committee members discussed creating a selfie station with hashtags: #BOEforVote16SF #Vote16SF #16forDemocracy
• Committee members discussed making follow up calls to those they had outreached to
• Committee members reviewed a copy of the draft Board of Education resolution

D. Review other committee and YEA updates
• Celi Tamayo-Lee gave an overview of Shara Orquiza’s plans to make a Vote16 video
• Committee members discussed holding a poster contest over spring break
• Lorelei Vaisse gave an overview from the Vote16 Youth Empowerment Academy orientation retreat for new leaders. The retreat included: Voting Rights history, team-building, history of Vote16SF effort, action-strategy chart, understanding our targets game, asset-mapping, and housekeeping.
• Celi Tamayo-Lee asked new leaders when they could attend a orientation retreat in March. They settled on a Sunday in March.
• Celi Tamayo-Lee reminded new leaders that they should meet her to go over participation goals, etc.
• Iris Morell requested that a worksheet for tracking activity be hosted online

E. Practice personal narrative/public comment with peer feedback
• Committee members confirmed that Shara Orquiza and Lorelei Vaisse would be press contacts for the Board of Education hearing
• Staff discussed public speaking tips and pointers
There was no further public comment.
F. Determine co-facilitator for next meeting
Arrianna Wu stepped up as community co-facilitator for the next committee meeting.
6. Staff Report
Adele Failes-Carpenter advised that YC applications for 2016-17 would be posted soon.

There was none.
