1. Call to Order and Roll Call

The meeting was called to order by Commissioner Yu at 5:00pm.

2. Approval of Agenda (Action Item)

Commissioner Wu, seconded by Commissioner Sicairos moved to approve the agenda for the meeting. The motion was approved by acclamation.

3. Approval of Minutes (Action Item)

Commissioner Sicairos, seconded by Commissioner Wu moved to approve the minutes from January 22, 2014. The motion was approved by acclamation.

5. Business (All Items to Follow Discussion and Possible Action)

A. Check-in

Committee members shared their cutest images on their mobile devices.

B. Updates from Community Advisory Committee (CAC) For Special Education coffee hour and Support for Families Visit

Commissioner Yu and staff shared how the visit went at the Coffee Hour and at Support for Families. They shared the connections they made and the information they received. These materials would be used to draw information from to strengthen the draft resolution the committee is working on.

The committee discussed the benefits and disadvantages of the types of curriculum they can propose: simulation vs interactive presentation; day long vs one period vs monthly. The committee decided on an interactive presentation, and would decide on the length upon further research.

C. Research Break-out

The commissioners broke out and individually researched SFUSD’s Health and PE Curriculum, Differentiated Instruction, Universal Design for Learning, Various Inclusion Programs, the Benefits of Inclusion and awareness on general ed (typical) students, and what the Feasibility of a Curriculum should it be implemented. These will help with the goal to implement a complimentary curriculum to increase awareness and ultimately lead to the success of an inclusive learning environment.

The committee came back and shared their findings.

6. Staff Report

A. Programmatic updates, review upcoming events

Staff shared the Mayor’s Office of Education’s Teacher of the Year Open Nomination and encouraged the committee to nominate a teacher.

7. Items to Report to Executive Committee (Action Item)

Commissioner Yu motioned to report updates from this meeting to the Executive Committee; the motion was approved by acclamation.

9. Adjournment

The meeting was adjourned at 6:56pm.
