1. Call to Order and Roll Call for Attendance


Chair Li called the meeting to order at 9:34 am.

Commissioners present: Jillian Wu, Guo, Avalos, Listana, Joyce Wu, David, Berliner, Cardenas, Li, Bernick, Edelhart

Commissioners absent: Marshall-Fricker, Chen, Zheng, Davis

Staff present: Adele Failes-Carpenter, Allen Lu

There was quorum.

Commissioner Marshall-Fricker noted present at 11:02 am.

Commissioner Listana motioned to excuse herself from the February 2nd meeting. Commissioner Bernick seconded. There was no public comment. The motion was adopted by acclamation.

 

 

2. Approval of Agenda (Action Item)

 


Commissioner David, seconded by Commissioner Cardenas, moved to approve the agenda. There was no public comment. The motion passed by acclamation.

A. Fall Orientation Retreat Core Content Review: Lifecycle of a Policy Priority, School District and City Government Overviews
Presenter(s): Youth Commissioners Joshua Cardenas and Michel Li

Commissioners Cardenas and Li led youth commissioners in a jeopardy quiz on legislation referred, the youth commission charter, the structure of city government, and the recognition of city officials. There was no public comment.

 

 

 

 

 

5. Youth Commission Business (All Items to Follow Discussion and Possible Action)

 


A. Review Footage from May 18, 2014 Youth Commission Budget and Policy Priority Presentation to Board of Supervisors’ Budget and Finance Committee
Presenters: Youth Commissioners Sophie Edelhart, Michel Li, Luis Avalos Nuñez

Youth commissioners viewed the May 28, 2014 presentation of the annual youth commission budget and policy priorities to the Board of Supervisors Budget and Finance committee. There was no public comment.

 

 

 

 

 

6. Committee Reports (Discussion Only)

 


A. Executive Committee

The executive committee discussed that the effort to lower the voting age in municipal elections was a major YC priority that is not currently being led by any issue-based committee.

B. Housing, Environment, and City Services Committee

The committee discussed their goals for the remainder of the term: Pedestrian safety and Vision Zero; the Year of the Homeless Youth; and the Children’s Outdoor Bill of Rights/recreation accessibility.

C. Immigration and Employment Committee

The committee would like to hold a youth town hall with tech companies to help inform the CBA process. They would also like to secure more grant funding for DACA fee waivers.

D. Youth Justice Committee

The committee would like to follow up on SFPD CPS referrals; the Project WHAT children of incarcerated parents priorities; including the inmate locator and the visiting age in county jails; and the implementation of juvenile policing trainings and SFPD-SFUSD MOU implementation.
