1. Call to Order and Roll Call
The meeting was called to order at 4:40 pm. Commissioners present: Sarah Armstrong, Nicholas Persky, Mia Shackelford. Staff present: Phimy Truong.2. Approval of Agenda (Action Item)
Commissioner Persky, seconded by Commissioner Shackelford, moved to approve the agenda. This motion was approved unanimously by acclamation.3. Approval of Minutes (Action Item)
A. Tuesday, February 14, 2012Commissioner Shackelford, seconded by Commissioner Persky, moved to approve the minutes of February 14, 2012. This motion was approved unanimously by acclamation.

A. Presentation on Findings and Recommendations from TAYSF Youth Employment ForumPresenters: Jose-Luis Mejia, Alma Ruznic, Nadiyah Shereff, Young Adult Advocates, Transitional Age Youth Initiative – San Francisco (TAYSF)
Commissioner Armstrong welcomed Transitional Age Youth Initiative Young Adult Advocates, Jose-Luis Mejia and Alma Ruznic to the youth employment committee meeting.
Mr. Mejia and Ms. Ruznic, then gave a detailed overview on their findings and recommendations from the Youth Employment Forum they held on March 23, 2011. The goals of the forum were to identify key barriers, discuss changes and improvements to be made in the current workforce system, and service delivery. Some findings from the forum include youth wanting to be connected to permanent jobs, improving outreach of all employment opportunities, employment opportunities that build on youth assets and interests, and having access and opportunities for all youth in San Francisco. Additional recommendations to improve youth employment in San Francisco include:
*providing incentives to employers in an effort to create more opportunities
*provide funding for more trade schools and programs that provide certificates and training in specific skill sets
*eliminating questions on applications that refer to criminal convictions in order to end discrimination and give all applicants a fair opportunity
*provide and give access to more paid opportunities for undocumented youth
Commissioners then asked clarifying questions . No official action was taken.
B. Feedback on Committee Priorities & Timeline
Commissioners presented their current priorities and timeline to Mr. Mejia and Ms. Ruznic.
No official action was taken.
C. Research & Study Session
Commissioners then continued their research on youth employment in the private sector and how to increase youth employment opportunities for the summer of 2012. Committee members then worked on a resolution calling on the Mayor to launch a SF Summer Jobs+ program.
6. Adjournment
The meeting was adjourned at 7:02 pm.Any materials distributed to the members of the Youth Commission within 72 hours of the meeting or after the agenda packet has been delivered to the members are available for inspection—along with minutes of previous Youth Commission meetings and all supplementary information—at the Youth Commission office during regular office hours (9am to 6pm, Monday—Friday).
